Working for Michael Wilford & Partners, Alison McLellan oversaw the construction of the Lowry Performing Arts Centre in Manchester.

 

The building sits on a triangular site on the edge of the Manchester Ship Canal, it was originally conceived to house the works of local artist LS Lowry, eventually comprising of two art galleries, two theatres, restaurant, cafe, bars and shops, linked by a covered promenade that allows the public to interact with the building.

 

Since opening the Lowry has initiated the rebirth of its historical industrial setting, Salford Quays.
