Brass Bandstand

 

The 'Brass Bandstand' project by artist Ben Long was shortlisted for 'Artists Taking the Lead', one of the major projects of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad and developed by Arts Council England in partnership with London 2012 and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

 

Ben Long commissioned Form_art to reconstruct a full-size Victorian bandstand in Birkenhead Park, the Wirral, made entirely from highly burnished brass. A myriad of dazzling surface reflections, the brass bandstand evokes both the nostalgia of musical summer afternoons as well as the historic social changes that have taken place in post-industrial Britain.
